VAIL — Interior Secretary David Bernhardt is looking at every job in the Bureau of Land Management to determine two things: Is the role essential? And does it need to be based in Washington, D.C.?

Once the newly confirmed secretary finishes answering those questions, he said, he can support the push to relocate the land agency to a Western state, closer to the nearly 250 million acres it manages.

Bernhardt, answering questions from a dozen state leaders at the annual Western Governors’ Association conference in Vail, declined to indicate a preference for any state. A decision is expected by September.

What time is the BLM meeting in Silt on Friday? Are representatives from the Alliance planning on being there? I would come.

Michelle, Sorry for the slow response, I just saw your comment. The BLM meeting with the city was a closed-door meeting. They were asking the BLM to begin enforcement action against RMR for the know permit non-compliance. Our letters hopefully helped get them to realize the importance of this issue in the community. BLM docs show that the site has been operating out of compliance since at least 2012. BLM to date has failed to bring the operator back into compliance and enforce federal law. Thank you for the continued support. We’re starting to push the needle in the right direction!
